POLAND — Fire officials continued Wednesday to investigate a pair of Sunday night fires that destroyed six tractor-trailer cabs and damaged two others in what has been called “likely coordinated arson.”

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said the State Fire Marshal’s Office was analyzing evidence taken from the fires at R.C. Moore locations in Poland and Scarborough. Investigators are also reviewing surveillance video from the two sites. 

In a news conference Monday, investigators had asked for help finding a gray car with a green driver’s door and an amber light on top. The car had pulled into the Poland site Sunday between 3 and 3:30 p.m. and the driver abruptly drove off when a staffer from another business approached.

To their surprise, investigators have received tips on half a dozen gray cars with a green driver’s door. 

“It’s a fairly unique vehicle,” McCausland said.

It was unclear yet whether any of those cars were the one seen at R.C. Moore in Poland or whether that car had anything to do with the fire five hours later.

The Sunday night fires blazed through three trucks parked in Scarborough and five parked in Poland before firefighters could get them under control.  

No one was hurt. R.C. Moore President Kelly Moore estimated the damage at $750,000.
