U.S. Sen. Susan Collins is doing an incredible job in Washington, D.C. The senator’s record speaks for itself. Her ongoing bipartisan efforts benefit all of her constituents, and she is to be commended.

Collins and her staff are just as dedicated meeting the needs of the local community members. My siblings and I had to recently make the heart-wrenching decision to place our mother in a memory care facility. Because our dad was a Korean War veteran, we reached out to the senator’s local office for assistance with applying for VA benefits for mom. The assistance with the paperwork and the ongoing support was extraordinary. Our mother is now receiving VA benefits, and my family and I extend our deepest gratitude. The process was so much easier than expected because of the senator’s involvement.

Additionally, I work with the local immigrant population, and I am continually making referrals to the senator’s office to assist community members with immigration issues. Collins and her staff have been instrumental in obtaining credentials — including work documents — in a timely fashion, so that individuals and families are able to secure employment and self-sufficiency.

The people of Maine are fortunate to have Sen. Collins and her staff working for all of us.
