HEBRON — A local Hebron Academy student was nationally recognized and awarded a medal from the 2017 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the country’s longest-running and most prestigious scholarship and recognition program for students in grades 7 to 12. Alaina Bonis, of Hebron, a member of the Class of 2021, received a silver medal for her drawing “Love Me Right.”

The national medal follows recognition at the regional level, awarded earlier this winter in Portland. Students have been identified by panels of creative professionals as some of the most talented young artists and writers in the nation. This year, more than 330,000 works of art and writing were submitted. Less than 1 percent were recognized at the national level.

Bonis and other Hebron Academy artists will have their works on display at the Art.Write.Now.2016 National Exhibition at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center, Parsons School of Design, The New School, and Pratt Institute’s Pratt Manhattan Gallery in New York City. The exhibit will feature more than 1,000 original visual and literary works.
