MAINE EGG FARMERS DONATE MORE THAN 100,000 EGGS JUST IN TIME FOR EASTER

Donation Supports Good Shepherd Food Bank’s Efforts to Fight Hunger

AUBURN — Hillandale Farm is helping in the fight against hunger by donating 9,000 dozen eggs to Good Shepherd Food Bank.

“Hillandale is proud to be partnering with Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine to provide high-quality protein to those in need throughout our community,” said Dave Labbe of Hillandale Farm. “Giving back is important to our company and we’re happy to be able to give this donation so more families can enjoy eggs during the Easter season.”

Sources of high-quality protein like fresh eggs are among the most-needed items at food assistance organizations. United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) states that one large egg delivers six grams of protein and 13 essential nutrients such as choline, folate, iron and zinc.

“Hillandale continues to be an incredible Good Shepherd Food Bank partner who understands what it takes to positively impact the health of a community,” said Kristen Miale, president of the Food Bank. “This generous donation of nutritious eggs is an example of that commitment and knowledge.”

More than 200,000 Mainers face food insecurity, meaning they lack access to adequate amounts nutritious food, according to the latest USDA research. Good Shepherd Food Bank provides more than 25 million pounds of food per year to hunger relief organizations throughout Maine to feed people in need.
