Color Run to color Greene

GREENE — Greene Central School will host the inaugural communitywide “Color Me Greene” My School Color Run at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 7, to raise money for their school.

The My School Color Run is a 5K fun run for all ages and fitness abilities. Along the route, participants pass through vibrant color zones, making it a “colorful experience.” Additionally, each preregistered participant is provided with a single powder color packet that will be thrown in the air at the final color celebration, at the finish line. Participants that register early will receive a T-shirt, race bib and individual color packet.

Participants can sign up for the run by visiting ColorMeGreene.eventbrite.com or by completing a paper registration form (paper forms are due April 14). Business sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Society to discuss postcards

NEW GLOUCESTER — Jerry Davis, local historian, will present “Postcards and Their Stories” at the Thursday, April 20, meeting of the New Gloucester Historical Society beginning at 7 p.m. at the New Gloucester Meetinghouse, 389 Intervale Road, Route 231, next to the Town Hall.

The talk will be free and is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Crafters sought for car show

DURHAM — The LACO Food Pantry benefit Car Show, hosted by the Yankee Cruisers Car Club, will be held rain or shine on Saturday, June 3, at Shiloh Chapel, 12 Beulah Lane, off Route 125. The car show will include cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Registration will be from 8 to 11 a.m. Cost is $7 per car, which is for a driver and one passenger. There is a $2 spectator fee. Food will be available for a donation purchase. Voting will end at 12:30 p.m. with awards at 2 p.m. There will be 27 classes, plus Best of Show.

Crafters are welcome for $15 per space.

Proceeds will benefit the Lisbon Area Christian Outreach.

Moxie parade registration open

LISBON — The Moxie Committee is registration for the Moxie Festival Parade on July 8.

In keeping with the mood of the festival, parade units must represent Moxie in some way. It could be as simple as flying flags or banners in Moxie orange, wearing Moxie colors or representing the festival theme, “Moxie Salutes the Red, White and Blue,” saluting all active military, veterans and first responders.

Registration deadline for parade enrollment is Friday, June 30.

KLT donates Howard Hill to Augusta

AUGUSTA — The title to the historic 164-acre Howard Hill property formally passed from the Kennebec Land Trust to the City of Augusta on March 23.

This transaction successfully completed an eight-year process undertaken by the KLT designed to preserve forever, as open space, the wooded backdrop to the state’s capitol. As part of the agreement, the city of Augusta has granted a conservation easement to KLT that ensures that the property will be conserved in perpetuity for the benefit of Maine’s people and wildlife.

A $163,500 grant award from the Land for Maine’s Future program supplemented a successful KLT fundraising effort that made possible the $925,000 land purchase, as well as a $100,000 stewardship fund to be held by the city and used for maintenance of the property.

Cribbage league lists winners

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners of April 6 were, first place, Don Haley and Edith Chambers; second, Marie Madore and Claudette Grandmaison; third, Don Maillette and Dick Saucier; fourth, Roger Labbe and Dick Champagne; and, fifth, Terry Chambers and Sandy Oliver.

The league plays on Thursdays at the at the Lewiston Memorial Armory.
