JAY —  Plans are progressing for construction of a new sanctuary at Bean’s Corner Baptist Church.

Over the first weekend of April, Mobile Baptist Builders members from across the country came and established a time line to plan and build the new sanctuary.

The Mobile Baptist Builders will be here this summer to help the growing Jay church. Builders include people from all walks of life including store owners, laborers, ministers, bar tenders, professional people, young and old – the oldest is 87, according to church member Jack Mills.

The Builders come here at their own expense not to build but to help the community build a church. They pay their transportation from as far away as California, they furnish their own food. They work all day, but they want the community to stop in and help and fellowship with them. There will be a couple of groups with as many as 120 people, he said.

There will be many little jobs for volunteers to help with such as passing out water, picking up lumber scraps, fetching nails and more.

During April and May: reparation of the cement floor will be done by Mills; plumbing by Zech Savage and volunteers; Electrical by IEC; and the cement by Grimaldi Concrete.

In June:  a cutting crew arrives on June 6 to pre-cut all the lumber for the sanctuary. A framing crew is here from June 10-17 to assemble the pieces.
A crane will start setting trusses on June 12 and the steeple arrives on June 14.
Interior walls will be wired and insulated between June 17-24 and from June 24-30 the steeple will be set along with sheet rocking and roofing.

During July, the sheet rock will be taped from July 3-7 and painting, by volunteers from the church and community, is planned from July 10-14.

The church hopes the community will become involved and help with a number of things, he said.

To feed over a hundred people several times a day, the church needs paper products such as plates, cups and napkins along with silverware, small bottles of water, ice, maybe an ice maker.

If you can help with any of this, contact Beth at the church 645-2925 or 446-2730. If you get an answering machine speak slowly and clearly.
The church will also need 6 portable toilets. If you can help contact Jack at 491-8509.
Tools needed include ladders 16′ and 24′, step ladders 8, 10, 12′ all need to be type 1, two sets of rolling staging, etc. If you can help contact Craig Boone 207-485-4561

All volunteers and donations will be greatly appreciated. Monetary donations may be mailed to Beans Corner Baptist Church, 17 Chesterville Road, Jay, Maine 04239

The volunteers are coming to help this community and all they ask in return is to meet the community and a place to sleep after a long day of work. If you would like to host contact Beth.
