GREENE — Rita L. Deforge passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017, at home, with her husband Leo holding her hand and surrounded with love by her daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughters.

Born Rita Lorraine Lessard on Oct. 13, 1937, from Lewiston; she was the third of six children. Rita was educated in Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1955. Rita married the love of her life Leo E. Deforge on Nov. 19, 1955. They lived in Greene since the fall of 1958 and raised two children there. Rita was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is missed already. Rita loved gardening and the flowers that graced the family yard are too numerous to count, yet she knew all the names, when they bloomed and often what they were used for. She had a particular fondness for carnations, lilacs and peonies. Rita passed away as quietly as she lived.

Rita is survived by her husband of 61 years, Leo; son Daniel and wife Marie of Bowdoinham; daughter Patricia DeforgeDubovy and husband Robert Dubovy of Adkins, Texas; grandsons Ian Deforge and fiancée Haley and daughter Sailor of Augusta, and Alex Deforge of Augusta; granddaughter Amanda Basselet and husband Brooks and children Sam, Cara and Maebeth of Chelsea. Rita is also survived by her only remaining sister Lucille and husband Edmund Morissette of Lewiston; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, numerous cousins; and childhood best friend Pauline Morin of Greene.

Rita is predeceased by her parents Romeo Lessard and Mabel Corneau Lessard, brothers; Roland, Roger and wife Yvette, Marcel, and Bertrand, nephews; Eddie, Jean-Paul, Tony Lessard.

The family would like to thank the staff from Beacon Hospice for their care and compassion.

Graveside services at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lewiston will be held Friday, April 21, 2017 at 2 p.m. A gathering for family and friends at the Deforge family home follows.
