LEWISTON — Stray bullets fired from Park Street Alley behind City Hall struck the Lewiston Public Library late Sunday, police said.
Police spokesman Lt. David St. Pierre said no one was injured during the incident, which is currently under investigation. There are no official suspects, but there are persons of interest, he said.
He said the incident occurred Sunday at about 10:10 p.m. The library is closed on Sundays. He said bullets struck windows on the second and third floors, and also hit the side of the building.
The alley intersects with Pine Street, just across from the library. St. Pierre said the bullets traveled “quite a distance” to the library.
He said his department was in the early stages of its investigation early Monday, with four or five detectives working on the case. Officers have been talking with several witnesses and looking at surveillance cameras from area businesses.
The library was closed Monday in observance of Patriots Day.
Police are urging anyone with information regarding the gunshots to contact the Police Department. Det. Tyler Michaud is leading the case, St. Pierre said.

One of several gun shots fired in Lewiston Sunday night struck a second-floor window of the Lewiston Public Library. Another bullet damaged a third-floor window. Police are investigating.
