100 years ago, 1917
The Lewiston man who usually pastures his cows on the circus grounds during the summer weeks when no other attraction makes use of the Franklin company field on Sabattus street, Lewiston, is much concerned over the large and prosperous pond which at present occupies the feeding ground of his cattle. Franklin pond, a newly formed lake which has come into existence only this spring, extends the entire length of the pasture and a greater part of the width of it. At least, the circus ground won’t go dry this summer, and the cows will have plenty in drink even if rations may be a trifle short.

50 years ago, 1967
Eileen Stevens of Greene, bowling for the Farris Coin-a-Mat team in the Northwood Park Women’s League at Holiday Lanes, set new tenpin records for Lewiston-Auburn in recent competition. She rolled a 269 string for a new mark, hitting 8 strikes in a row, which was a women’s record. Then she had a nine spare, another strike and a nine spare. She had a 589 series, which is also a local high, but just for this season as the House Record is 623, set by Avis Luce.

25 years ago, 1992
Lewiston schools may eventually follow in the footsteps of the Auburn school system, which is getting ready to celebrate its 25-year-old volunteer program, the oldest formal program in the state. According to Jocelyne Rancourt, director of volunteer services for the Auburn system, the program has nearly 500 volunteers for its 14 schools. This, she emphasized, includes community as well as parent volunteers. And though parents have the opportunity to choose to volunteer in their child’s school, they are encouraged to look at the needs of schools system-wide. “The philosophy of our system is that the program is limited only by imagination,” said Rancourt.
