JAY — A Polycor worker was injured when he fell approximately 20 feet in a North Jay granite quarry Thursday.
The unnamed man was working for Polycor at the North Jay White Quarry about 4 p.m. Thursday when he slipped and fell about 20 feet onto a lower level of the quarry, Jay Fire Chief Michael Booker, said.
Another employee tried to break his fall and received facial injuries. He was unable to keep the man from falling onto the hard surface, Booker said.
The man complained of back and chest injuries but was alert and talking when members of fire department reached him, placed him on a backboard and took him out to a NorthStar ambulance, he said.
He was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.
Booker said the man was from Vermont.
A Jay police officer also responded to the rescue, he said.
