AUBURN — Kenneth B. Cote, 62, of Auburn, lost his hard-fought battle to cancer under the diligent care of the staff at the Hospice House on Tuesday, April 18.

He was born Aug. 11, 1954, in Lewiston to the late Adrian B. Cote and Marie Marquis Dow. Ken married the love of his life, Diane Godbout on May 15, 1981. A lifelong resident of Lewiston-Auburn, Ken worked in shoe factories in his younger years and then worked for the City of Lewiston janitorial services at the Lewiston Police Department followed by Lewiston Public Works road crew. After many years of hard work, he received his high school diploma at Edward Little High School in 2005.

Ken enjoyed time with family, especially Sundays at Sebago and family reunions during the summertime and at holidays. At every moment he had, he would strike up a conversation and share stories of current events as he saw them, or stories of fellow family members, with a strong sense of humor and desire to make people feel welcome and happy. Ken always extended his heart to those around him and was happy to help in the best way he could. Although Ken was unable to serve in the military, he developed a deep passion for the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels. Ken was a collector of everything Blue Angels and their appearances at local air shows were a highlight every year. Ken’s dream of visiting the home of the Blue Angels in Pensacola, Fla., came true in November 2015. Ken’s first ride in an airplane allowed him to fulfill this lifelong dream. Ken was a proud member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council 106 and Honor Guards.

He is survived by the love of his life and best friend of 35 years, Diane (Godbout) Cote; a son: Shawn Cote and wife, Tiffany; a daughter, Danielle Cote; a sister, Constance Kaherl and husband, Everett; two brothers, Michael Cote and wife, Sonia, Frank “Butch” Dow and wife, Lisa; his sisters-in-law, Suzanne Godbout and Claire Patterson; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and a very special granddaughter, Mia Cote.

He is predeceased by his mother, Marie “Teddy” Marquis Cote Dow; father, Adrian B. Cote; his mother- and father-in-law, Lucien and Juliette Godbout, and many aunts and uncles.

A very special thank-you to the nurses in the oncology department at St. Mary’s Hospital, as well as the wonderful and caring staff at the Hospice House in Auburn.
