FARMINGTON — David Swett, 61, died Monday, April 24, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington. He was a resident of East Dixfield.

Born in Rumford on Aug. 31, 1955, he was a son of Frank and Shirley (Ramey) Swett. David graduated from Mexico High School, Class of 1973. During his high school years, he shared his passion for boxing with his father, Frank, who was one of his trainers. In 1971, he won the state of Maine AAU championship. In 1972, he won the Golden Gloves featherweight championship. David served in the U.S. Navy as a nurse and continued his boxing career, earning the East Coast championship title.

He enjoyed woodworking and playing the guitar. He was also a songwriter and enjoyed his jam sessions.

He was married in Rumford on July 13, 1991, to Roxanne Parlin of East Dixfield, who survives him. Other survivors include his mother, Shirley Swett, of Mexico; three daughters, Brandy Lesperance and her husband, Ajay, of Wilton, Pamela Swett of Wilton, and Amy Swett of Farmington; a son, Danny Swett, of Farmington; two stepchildren, Jason Keene of Mississippi and Teresa Santini of Pennsylvania; three sisters, Marcy Bisson and her husband, David, of Raymond, Donna Jamison and her husband, Jeff, of Saco, and Carol Hotham and her husband, Phil, of Mexico; a brother, Herbert Swett of Biddeford; and nine grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his father; and a special grandson, Matteo.
