DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have many friends and others who give me can tabs for the Shriners hospital in Massachusetts. Where is a good place to redeem these tabs to get the best refund? — John, Rumford.

ANSWER: Sun Spots cannot say for sure who will give you the best price for your aluminum tabs but will offer a few places to contact to compare. Let them know that it is for charity and that the proceeds are to be donated to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

* Schnitzer (previously Maine Metal Recycling) in Auburn will redeem aluminum tabs. It is at 522 Washington St. N. and can be reached at 207-786-3531. Hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.;

* West Paris Metals Recycling, 36 Maple St. in West Paris, buys aluminum. Call 207-674-2100 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m; and

* Kennebec Metal Recyclers, 14 Brown St. in Skowhegan, also buys aluminum. Call 207-474-6988 Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Adults age 55 and older can make a difference in the lives of others while having a great time and earning a little extra money. Foster Grandparents mentors and supports academic achievement of children in schools. Senior Companions provides companionship, local transportation and respite to elders seeking to remain in their homes.
