Local student wins scholarship
SABTTUS — Matthew Strout of Sabattus, a senior at Oak Hill High School, is one of 60 students across the country to receive the Make An Impact Scholarship from Modern Woodmen of America.
The award recognizes young Modern Woodmen members who have made a local impact through volunteerism and demonstrated outstanding academic achievement.
The scholarship, which will award $1,000 for Strout’s college expenses, is targeted to students who support Modern Woodmen’s mission to improve the quality of life in communities nationwide. Winners are selected based in part on their commitment to community service, as well as academic performance, leadership experience and educational goals.
Parkinson’s disease group to meet
AUBURN — Parkinson’s disease support group will meet from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on the first Thursday of the month at Clover Health Care, 400 Minot Ave.
The group will be facilitated by Kate Adams, owner of Aging Excellence.

AUBURN — The High Street Food Pantry is seeking donations of children’s books for infants through teens.
Donations may be brought to the Auburn United Methodist Church, at 439 Park Ave.

L&A Veterans seek volunteers
LEWISTON — L&A Veterans Council is seeking volunteers to assist at its Memorial Day Parade, at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 27, beginning at Kennedy Park.
Volunteers are also being sought to assist in placing flags on veteran graves at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 28, at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
