TURNER — SAD 52 Adult and Community Education is offering a large collection of classes on their Winter/Spring schedule. Beginning as early as the week of May 1, there will be many one-night workshops, career enhancing courses and certifications, weekend gatherings, and opportunities to learn homesteading skills.

Sub Training: Participants will learn about SAD 52 school expectations, teacher’s lesson plans, and assertive discipline. This course is one step in the substitute teacher application process. A high school diploma is required, college degree preferred.

Using Adobe Lightroom: Students will learn to maximize digital photos with Adobe Lightroom Version 5. This software is logical, intuitive, and is designed to make ordinary photos unique. Participants can discover how to import, organize, and back up files, as well as navigate, and use the collection feature. They must bring their own laptop, with Lightroom installed, and a thumb drive.

Art Night Out Collage Charm: Participants will make mini-collages using paper, text, photos and more. When the collage is complete, it will be placed between glass and finished with a unique solder-less metal frame.

Preserving the Harvest: This hands-on workshop, taught by the UMaine Cooperative Extension, will show the basic steps for canning and freezing.

Past Life Regression: People who are curious about the idea of having a past life may have questions answered by experiencing a past life regression. Participants will be guided through their memories in a relaxed state.

Lip Balm & Moisturizer Workshop: Participants will make rosemary beeswax lip balm and learn a basic recipe to make lotions. Students will go home with a container of lip balm or two, and a bottle of lemongrass hand cream.

BBQ Basics & Birds: Participants will create their own rubs and sauces with different regional styles and flavors. Using a variety of smoking methods, participants will prepare smoked chicken thighs, a whole chicken, and sample other styles of barbecued birds.

Chakra Attunement: Using relaxation and guided imagery, participants will have the opportunity to clear and activate chakras to promote optional well being. They’ll discover the names, functions and locations of the seven major chakras.

Japanese Shibori Silk Scarves: Participants will make designs by wrapping scarves around PVC pipes, creating layers and layers of colors. They will also be able to paint directly on scarves. 

Beef, Pork and other Tasty Critters: The class will discuss smoking beef, roasts and short ribs to making burgers and brisket by exploring options available for the many cuts of beef. Also on the menu is variations on pork: butts, bacon, sausage and ribs. The class will also discuss a method for smoking southern style spareribs. There will be samples for students to taste.

CPR AED: This is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course. Upon successful completion, including a skills test, students will receive a Heartsaver CPR AED course completion card, valid for two years. Meets re-certification requirement. Handbook and certification card included in the course. Physical ability to practice and demonstrate chest compressions is required.

Quantum Healing Hypnosis: Students will have the opportunity to discover QHHT and experience a past life regression. A group discussion will follow. Those attending should bring a notebook and pen to record observations and wear comfortable clothing.
