RUMFORD — A sacrifice bunt by Emily Laubauskas sent Leigha Carrier across the plate to give Mountain Valley a 4-3 win over Carrabec in an early-season softball tilt Tuesday.
Carrier had belted a line-drive single that plated Taylor Henry to tie the contest at 3-3. Carrier led the Falcons (3-2) with two hits and one RBI, while Henry pounded out a double.
Bailey Dunphy led the Cobras (1-2) with two hits, while Sam Lebeau suffered the loss. Laubauskas scattered three hits on her way to earning the win.
Monmouth 18, Dirigo 0
DIXFIELD — Sophomore first baseman Haylee Langlois produced a triple and a single for five RBIs as Monmouth blanked Dirigo 18-0 in a five-inning softball outing Tuesday afternoon.
The Mustangs (3-1) posted eight runs in the second inning. Sophomore pitcher Mariah Herr recorded a two-hit shutout.
Sophomore Gabrielle White and senior Rebecca Dailey had the Cougars’ (1-2) only hits, a single each, in the losing effort.
Baseball
Madison-Carrabec 5, Mountain Valley 0
RUMFORD — Two runs in the third inning were enough, yet Madison-Carrabec added three more for insurance in the sixth and seventh to record a 5-0 victory over Mountain Valley on Tuesday.
Evan Bess and Dylan Willette led Madison-Carrabec (3-2) with two hits apiece, while Garrett Garbarini belted out a pair of hits for the Falcons (3-2).
Starter Dustin Crawford picked up the mound win, while Cam Godbois suffered the loss.
Girls’ lacrosse
Lake Region 13, St. Dom’s 9
BRIDGTON — Lake Region came out on top of a high-scoring girls’ lacrosse tilt on Tuesday, hustling to record a 13-9 win over St. Dom’s.
Caroline Gastonguay led the Saints with five goals, while Avery Lutrzykowski tallied two goals and three assists. Single goals from Emma Theriault and Mia-Angelina Leslie completed the scoring for the Saints.
Abigail Slonina made one save for St. Dom’s.
Messalonskee 16, Edward Little 8
OAKLAND — Lauren Pickett netted five goals to lead Messalonskee to a 16-8 victory over Edward Little in girls’ lacrosse action Tuesday.
Lydia Dexter and Ally Turner chipped in for Eagles (4-0) with three goals apiece, while Kaitlyn Smith scored a pair of goals. Single tallies by Sophie Holmes, Haley Lowell and Jenna Nash completed the scoring.
Megan Steele led the Red Eddies (0-3) with four goals, while Piper Norcross added two. Haley Frolich and Kaylee Jipson also tallied for Edward Little.
Cassidy Mae made three saves for Messalonskee, while Mariah Vaillancourt turned aside 13 shots between the posts for Edward Little.
