RUMFORD — Donald R. Gilbert, 78, died Wednesday, May 10, at the Rumford Hospital. He had resided on the Isthmus Road in Rumford.
Donald was born in Mexico on March 7, 1939, the son of Fred and Amy (Dayon) Gilbert, graduated from Mexico High School, and had served in the U.S. Navy.
He worked as a papermaker on No. 10 paper machine for Boise Cascade and Mead paper companies.
He was a Communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius – St. John Church, and a member of the Elks and the American Legion.
He was married in Mexico on May 9, 1959, to Lucienne “Luci” Dufour, whom survives, of Rumford. Other survivors include a son, Dean Gilbert, and wife, Laurie, of Greenwood; a daughter, Jodi LaBrash, and husband, Andre, of Rumford; grandchildren Christopher Gilbert, Hunter and John Herron, and Abby and Aaron LaBrash; brothers Richard Gilbert and wife, Ethel, of South Carolina and Bruce Gilbert and wife, Laurie, of Falmouth; and sisters-in-law Gladys Gilbert and Helen Gilbert.
He was predeceased by sons Andrew and Matthew; brothers Leo, Eugene, Norman, Wilbur and Harold; sister, Clair; and sister-in-law, Maxine Gilbert.
