LEWISTON — John A. Severy, 71, of Lewiston passed away at Central Maine Medical Center Wednesday, May 10.

John was born in Portland to George and Marie Severy in 1945. He attended Gray-New Gloucester High School where he excelled in sports. John joined the Navy and served for three years aboard the USS Berry. He retired from Bath Iron Works after 29 years of service. He belonged to local 6 machinist union. John’s favorite pastimes and hobbies included, hunting, fishing, playing cards (mostly Spades and Cribbage), learning about World History and spending time with his friends and family.

John is survived by his son, David J. Severy and his wife, Angela, of South China; his grandchildren, Christopher Knowles, Joshua Severy, Zachary Severy and Rebecca-Ann Severy, Jebb, Kayden and Evan Severy; his great-grandchildren, Benjamin Severy and Zaydin Knowles; his grandson, Jamie Kelly of Vermont; his brother, Richard W. Severy of Poland; his niece, Tammy Baker and husband, Mark, of Coudersport, Pa.; grand-niece, Ashley; his niece, Jessica Kanaris and her husband, Kirk, of Augusta; grand-niece, Sierra; and best friend, Jack Bailey of Lewiston, who helped take care of John for the last couple of years. Many other family members.

John was predeceased by his wife, Carol, of 35 years; his sons, Steven C. Severy and Gordon R. Severy; half-brother, LT Col. USAF Richard T. Tokarz of Colorado Springs, Colo.
