LEWISTON — The Great Falls Forum this month will feature Lewiston native Nancy McBrady, executive director of the Maine Wild Blueberry Commission.

Her presentation is titled “Wild Blue Yonder — Understanding Maine’s Wild Blueberry Heritage, Industry and Economy.”

The program will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 18, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library.

For the past three years, McBrady has been responsible for all programs and projects of the Wild Blueberry Commission of Maine, supporting the state’s 500 blueberry growers and processors. It involves fostering research, supporting marketing and promotion efforts, and addressing public policy issues critical to the wild blueberry industry.

In her Great Falls Forum presentation, she will cover the history and growth of the Maine wild blueberry industry, as well as the current challenges faced by growers. She plans to review the programs and initiatives the commission has underway to help expand into new markets and increase sales.

McBrady was born and raised in Lewiston and is the daughter of Drs. Candace and Edward Walworth. After college, she worked as a management consultant in Chicago before returning to Maine to attend the University of Maine School of Law. She practiced environmental law in Portland for seven years prior to joining the commission in 2014.

Admission is free and no reservations are required. Bring a lunch; coffee, tea and bottled water will be available at the library.

The Great Falls Forum is co-sponsored by Bates College, Lewiston Public Library and the Sun Journal.

The library is at 200 Lisbon St. at the corner of Pine Street. More information is available at 207-513-3135 or LPLreference@gmail.com.
