READFIELD — A Wayne man died and a Mt. Vernon man was seriously injured after the car they were riding in went off the road and crashed late Friday night in Readfield.
The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office said Ethan Russell, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on North Road shortly after 10 p.m. Friday. Russell and Richard Hall Jr. 21, of Mt. Vernon were passengers in the car driven by Tyler Goucher, 21 of Mt. Vernon. Hall was flown to CMMC in Lewiston with serious injuries.
Police said no one in the car was wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, though police said speed and alcohol may have been factors. No charges have been made as the accident remains under investigation.
The car has been impounded as deputies await a warrant to search the vehicle.
