A Bethel man was briefly trapped in his car after it crashed into a tree beside Route 26 in Woodstock on Wednesday evening, Oxford County Deputy Joshua Daley.

A Bethel driver was injured when his car left Route 26 in Woodstock and struck a tree Wednesday evening, Oxford County Deputy Joshua Daley said.

A 61-year-old Bethel man was flown to a Lewiston hospital after his car crashed into a tree next to Route 26 in Woodstock on Wednesday evening, Oxford County Deputy Joshua Daley said. The man’s identity was not immediately released by police.

WOODSTOCK — A Bethel man was injured Wednesday evening when his car went off Route 26 near Hadley’s Garage and crashed into a tree, Oxford County Deputy Joshua Daley said.

The driver, who is 61 years old, was not immediately identified. He was flown to a Lewiston hospital, Daley said.

The man was alone when the Buick Century sedan crashed at 5:06 p.m., the deputy said. Rescuers had to open car doors to free him. He conscious and alert, Daley said.

The northbound lane of Route 26 was closed for about 45 minutes.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Pace Ambulance and Woodstock, Paris and Greenwood fire departments responded to the scene.
