FARMINGTON – A Wilton man accused in February of sexually assaulting and choking a woman was indicted Thursday on related charges.
Joel R. Thompson, 42, was indicted on a Class A charge of gross sexual assault and a Class B aggravated assault that involved strangulation. He was also indicted on misdemeanor charges of domestic violence assault and violation of condition of release, according to a Franklin County grand jury report.
Wilton police arrested Thompson on Feb. 4 after they received a report of a sexual assault, Wilton Police Chief Heidi Wilcox said previously.
A conviction on the sexual assault charge is punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000. A conviction of a Class B crime is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.
