LEWISTON — L/A Arts and the Maine Film & Video Association announce the Lewiston premiere of the 2017 Maine Short Film Festival at the Olin Arts Center, Bates College, 75 Russell St. on Sunday, May 21, at 5 p.m. Tickets are $8, free for students with ID. This will be the final screening of the 2017 Festival that has toured a dozen Maine theaters from Millinocket to Portland and will feature a reception and awards ceremony for the top three audience favorites.  Prizes are valued at $550 for first; $350 for second; and $150 for third Prize. Many of the filmmakers will be present and will participate in a Q&A following the screening.  See the trailer:  https://vimeo.com/193929724

The 90-minute program includes 14 films from 12 Maine filmmakers.  The festival celebrates Maine, its land, its people, and its creative soul, highlighting:  Maine artists, fisherman, boat builders, wilderness guides, transgender people, youth, and original screenplays in all genres: documentary, fiction, experimental, animation, comedy and horror.   The films are:

 The Selection Jury

Louise Rosen, jury chair and consulting director of L/A Arts; Ben Fowlie, founder and director of the Camden International Film Festival; and Daniel Kany, art and film critic of the Portland Press Herald.

 The Top Three Audience Awards are chosen by audience votes at each screening location. The votes from the final screening will be tabulated and included in the final count.
