GRAY — John Henry Villanueva pitched a three-hit shutout as Gray-New Gloucester played some 90-foot baseball in the fifth inning for a 2-0 victory over Freeport on Saturday afternoon.
Jake Winchester pushed Tanner Mann to second and landed safely at first when the Falcons (3-8) misplayed an attempted sacrifice-bunt.
Tanner Mann later scored on another Falcon error. And, Eli Winchester singled in his brother Jake for the second run for the Patriots (5-7) before Villanueva was tagged out to close the inning.
Pitcher Shea Wagner had an effective day on the mound, but for untimely defensive errors. He contributed a pair of hits, including a single and a double for Freeport in the losing effort.
Spruce Mountain 5, Oceanside 0
JAY — Hunter Dalton launched a three-run home run in the fourth inning as Spruce Mountain climbed to a 5-0 victory over Oceanside in baseball action Saturday afternoon.
Devon Pomeroy collected a pair of hits including a double for the Phoenix (8-4). Dalton added a single to go along with his home run.
Coby Dorr was the only repeat hitter for the Mariners (6-5) in the losing effort.
Softball
Oceanside 11, Spruce Mountain 1
JAY — Alexis Mazurek crushed a three-run home run in the first inning as Oceanside rolled to an 11-1 victory over Spruce Mountain in softball action Saturday afternoon.
Rachael Joyce followed with a two-run double in the second inning for the Mariners (9-3). Pitcher Chloe Jones struck out nine and allowed just one run for Oceanside.
Pitcher Alex Bessey singled in the first inning for the Phoenix (2-10), stole second and scored on a groundout for the only Spruce Mountain run of the afternoon.
Boys’ lacrosse
Oak Hill 10, Lincoln Academy 9
WALES — Steven Gilbert rattled off four goals as Oak Hill edged Lincoln Academy 10-9 in boys’ lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.
The Raiders received offensive support from Matt Eaton with two goals and two assists.
The Eagles got nine goals from just three players. Liam Cullina found the back of the net on four ocassions for Lincoln Academy.
Goalie Nate Marcotte made 13 saves to earn the win in net for Oak Hill.
Girls’ lacrosse
St. Dom’s 19, Bonny Eagle 4
STANDISH — Caroline Gastonguay scored seven goals and had four assists as St. Dom’s sailed to a 19-4 victory over Bonny Eagle in girls’ lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.
Kristina Cornelio chipped in with four goals and two assists for the Saints. Avery Lutrzykowski managed five points with two goals and three assists, while Rileigh Stebbins and Mia-Angelina Leslie each had two goals for St. Dom’s in the winning effort.
Hebron 14, Hyde 12
HEBRON — Avery Jurek tabulated a game-high six goals and Liz McKinnon netted another five as Hebron pulled out a 14-12 victory over Hyde in girls’ lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.
McKinnon put the first four goals in the board to give Hebron an early 4-0 lead. The Lumberjacks led 7-5 at the half.
Emma Levinson led the Phoenix (11-2) with five goals in the losing effort.
Lewiston 14, Gardiner 4
GARDINER — Christine Chasse notched a game-high four goals as Lewiston soared to a 14-4 victory over Gardiner in girls’ lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Devils (6-3) jumped out to an 11-2 lead at the midpoint. Sasha Leclair, Dacia Bail, Rachel Ouellette and Shaima Naji posted two goals each for Lewiston.
Lewiston outshot Gardiner 24-14.
Goalie Julia Hinckley made 10 saves for the Tigers (3-6), while goalies CeCe Racine and Alexis Leach combined for 10 saves for Lewiston in the winning effort.
