LEWISTON — Police arrested a man after a woman said she was assaulted in his car in Lewiston.

The unnamed victim told Lewiston police she was walking to work about 4 a.m. Wednesday on Lisbon Street when she was approached by Joshua Brown, 41, according to a statement from Lewiston police.

Police say Brown and the victim didn’t know each other but he compelled her to get into his car. The victim said there was unwanted sexual contact, and she then got away from Brown, according to the police statement.

The victim was able to get help from someone who contacted police, according to the statement.

Brown was arrested about 6 p.m. Wednesday at 86 Leavitt St., Mexico, and charged with kidnapping and unlawful sexual contact, both felony charges.

Brown is being held at the Androscoggin County Jail with a cash bail of $10,000. His arraignment is scheduled for Friday.
