‘Buddy’ Poppy distribution 

PARIS — VFW Post No. 9787 is preparing for the “Buddy” Poppy distribution during Memorial Weekend at 58 East Main St.

The post members and Ladies Auxiliary, with other volunteers, will be at various locations in the local area.

?”Buddy” Poppy is assembled by disabled and needy veterans in VA medical facilities. The program provides financial assistance for local and state veterans’ rehabilitation services.?

Society museum open Saturday

WOODSTOCK — The Woodstock Historical Society Museum will be open from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 27.

Memorial Day at Veterans’ Home

PARIS — A Memorial Day ceremony will be presented at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 28, at the Maine Vetrans’ Home, 477 High St.

Guest speaker of the day will be Sen. Jim Hamper, R-Paris.

A roll call honoring all of the residents of the home who have deceased during the past year, will be read.

Tours of the facility will be available and light refreshments will be served.

Harrison’ Memorial Day parade

HARRISON — The Harrison Memorial Day Parade will be held at 9 a.m Monday, May 29, at the United Parish Congregational Church of Harrison and North Bridgton, on Main Street, across from Crystal Lake Park.

The parade will start at the UCC at 9 a.m. and march to the Harrison Village Cemetery, to Long Lake on Lincoln Street behind the Post Office, and to the center of town by the veterans monuments.

A short service will be held at each stop with the Oxford Hills High School band with Kyle Jordan and the veterans’ firing squad led by Stephen Wentworth. Those marching should be at the church by 8:30 a.m. Cars are available for veterans who are unable to march.

All veterans, fireman, Boy and Girl Scouts, and school kids are welcome and encouraged to march at 9 a.m. and attend the church service at 10 a.m. Ice cream will be served to the kids.

Texas Hold’em poker

PARIS — The AMVETS’s monthly Texas Hold’em poker tournaments are held at 6 p.m. on the first Friday of the month at the VFW Hall at 58 East Main St. 

Next tournament will be Friday, June 2

The doors and the kitchen will open at 5 p.m. There will be a 50/50 raffle.

‘Hobbit Immersion Camp’ at PPL

PARIS — The Paris Public Library will host “Hobbit Immersion Camp” from July 10 through July 21, at 37 Market Square.

The six sessions will include online lectures discussing Tolkeien’s classic work, “The Hobbit,” as well as individual and group activities, as participants read the book over a two-week period.

This program is designed for 10- to 13-year-olds, but younger and older children are also welcome to participate. Registration is required.
