LITCHFIELD — Ralph Howard Walker, 83, of Litchfield, formerly of Turner, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 30, with his wife and daughters at his side.

Born August 14, 1933 in Alfred. He was the third child of eight to Frank Earl & Edna May Howard Walker of Arundel.

He was married to Florence Bernice Hume on June 1, 1957 at Christ Church in Kennebunk.

A graduate of Kennebunk HS, class of 1954, he then drafted into the Army July 1954 during the Korean War.

Dad was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (Soil Conservation Service) in York County from 1957-1966, then Androscoggin County 1966-1985 when he retired at the age of 52. After retirement, he was a special needs bus driver for SAD 52 until 2004. His heart was huge and he loved these kiddos like they were his own.

Dad & Mom have wintered the past 15 years in Zephyrhills, Fla., where they have continued to gain more friends in their already friend filled life. In fact, they saw more of their “Turner Friends” in Zephyrhills than they did when in Maine.

Dad’s passions where many! He especially loved playing golf with his daughters, son-in-law’s, & grandsons. He got his first hole in one at the Turner Highlands and his second at the Municipal Golf Course in Zephyrhills, Fla. He also loved skiing, travelling, camping, & snowmobiling with his family and their many friends. In fact, he was the Trail Master for the Turner Ridge Riders in years past. He was a competitive archer, in his younger years, winning many trophies. He enjoyed painting, wood carving, & drawing. We have a lot of memorabilia from these activities all around his home. He & Mom have lead a very full life!

Dad was a member of the Nezinscot Masonic Mason Lodge in Turner. He & Mom were members of Friendship Squares, a square-dancing club out of Wilton, for many years.

He is survived by Florence Hume, his wife of 60 years!; three daughters, Theresa and her husband, Michael Sheehan (Biddeford), Rebecca and her husband, Norman Gagnon (Roxbury), and Kathlene and her husband, Kenneth Clarke (Litchfield); sister Sylvia Mills; brother Robert & his wife, Sandra; sisters-in-law Ginny (Howard), Wanda (Donald), & Carol (Ronald) all of Arundel; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Amanda, Breanne, Kaitlyn, Katreana, Kenny Jr., Kasey-Anne, Maxwell, & Kelsey. Last but not least in his eyes where his 7.3 sweet great-grandchildren, which he asked for frequently at the end of his full life: Dominic, Nevaeh, Aiden, Lane, Bryson, Kole, Amelia, & Baby D (whom is the ‘.3’).

Dad is predeceased by his parents, Frank Earl & Edna May (Howard) Walker; sister & brother-in-law, Suzanne & Victor Harding; brothers, Frank, Howard, Donald, & Ronald, and Ronald’s wife Donna.

On behalf of us girls and our Mom we would like to thank Androscoggin Home Health Care Hospice. Special thanks to Cindy Brown, Michelle Arthur, & Michelle Tilton for their incredible compassion and education for us to take care of our very special dad/husband!
