PORTLAND — Mary E. Naugler, 81, formerly of Durham, peacefully passed away at Fallbrook Woods in Portland on Friday, May 26.

She was born on April 5, 1936, in Durham in the same home that she would reside in until 2014, the only child to the late Laurence T. and Marion (Pepin) Brown. She grew up in the Durham area and attended Southwest Bend School through the eighth grade. She then attended Walton Junior High School for ninth grade and completed her schooling as a graduate from Edward Little High School.

After school, Mary worked at the family store, Brownies, for several years. During that time, she met and married George W. Naugler in 1959 and they started a family together. Mary later worked as a baker for the Durham Elementary School, where she enjoyed what she did for many years until her retirement.

Mary was a past president of the AMVETS Auxiliary, past master of the Eureka Grange No. 7 and a matron of the Eureka Junior Grange. She was also a member of the First Congregational Church of Durham.

She had an absolute passion for baking. She would bake biscuits, pies, breads and pastries, as well as many other treats. She was very good at it and made many people happy with what she would create in the kitchen.

She is survived by her four children, Sally Roane of Brunswick, Deanna Artis of Durham, Terry Davis of Mooresville, N.C., and George L. Naugler of Auburn. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, George W. Naugler.

She will be deeply missed by many.

Condolences may be shared with her family at www.crosmanfuneralhome.com.
