GREENE — Erica Brown and the Bluegrass Connection will perform at the Sawyer Memorial on Friday, June 16, at 2 and 7 p.m.

Brown started playing the fiddle at the age of 6 and has been performing since the age of 9, traveling throughout New England, Canada and Louisiana. She has won numerous fiddle contests in New England as well as Canada.

In 2003 she was awarded Junior Female Entertainer Of The Year by the Maine Country Music Association and in 2006 she received the Harold Carter Memorial Award from the Down East Country Music Association. Brown was the recipient of a Maine Arts Commission Traditional Arts Apprenticeship in 2006 and is now recognized as a Master of Traditional Fiddling by the Maine Arts Commission.

Erica brings a special energy and style to the Maine music scene. Her talent for combining the precision of classical music with the spontaneity of country and bluegrass fiddle makes for a fun-filled performance every time she plays.

The Bluegrass Connection comprises some of the finest musicians in New England. Brown has helped bring music into several elementary schools by holding workshops and personally performing. She has a strong desire to share her knowledge with anyone who has an interest in music and the fiddle.

A  music educator for more than 12 years, Brown and her husband, Matt Shipman, recently opened a teaching studio called Darlin’ Corey Studios, at their home in Portland.

Erica Brown and The Bluegrass Connection performance highlights include opening for Grammy Award-winning country music superstar Dwight Yoakam as well as Grammy Award-winning bluegrass performer Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder at the Maine Lobster Festival. The group has performed at venues and festivals around New England and the Canadian Maritimes.
