This week the Buzz is chock-full — a sale, an opening, a rumor squashed, a Krispy Kreme update — so without further ado:

Elizabeth Ann General Store sold May 30 for $800,000 and the new owner plans to upgrade and renovate.

The well-known store at the corner of East Avenue and Sabattus Street in Lewiston had been in the Everett family for 41 years and was the Twin Cities’ first 24-hour convenience store/gas station.

Dustin Boutin at Magnusson Balfour Commercial & Business Brokers, who helped broker the sale, said new owner Daniel Boutin is a lifelong Lewiston-Auburn resident.

Dustin Boutin said Daniel Boutin plans to upgrade and improve the gas pumps and laundromat and find a tenant for the long-closed lube station.

“His effort is to run the convenience store for as long and as efficiently as possible, until the next opportunity arises,” Dustin Boutin said. “He is in hopes that either a land lease or build-to-suit opportunity will present itself. His thoughts also include potentially building a retail plaza.”

Former owner Barbara Everett had put the property on the market this winter after a Texas-based developer announced plans to build a sizable gas station, convenience store and fast-food restaurant in the former Cottle’s lot across the street.

That $3.2 million project has been approved by the Planning Board and could start construction later this year.

The Buzz heard an interesting rumor this week, that the Auburn Walmart was doing away with all its cashiers and going to self-service lanes only after its current remodel.

Not so, says a corporate Walmart spokeswoman.

Cashiers and self-service checkouts will both exist after the renovation, which is expected to wrap in August.

Lewiston’s latest

C & J Buddha Asian Bistro, going into the former Tim Hortons at 736 Sabattus St., got its liquor license approved this week by the City Council.

According to its application, the new owner is Shun Hua Hu, the restaurant will feature a sushi bar and cocktail bar and it’s expected to open June 20.

Final inspections are happening this week, according to the city.

Krispy Kreme, where art thou?

Speaking of inspections . . .

Developer Cort Mendez from NH Glazed, LLC said last week that he’s close to submitting permits for the new Krispy Kreme on Center Street in Auburn. He won’t have a new targeted opening date until that process is finished.

According to the city, the project already has a structural permit and a permit for the fit out and finish of Firehouse Subs, but a final interior design hasn’t been submitted for Krispy Kreme yet.

In January, the opening had been projected for late May after construction delays, and Mendez said at the time that his new store in Saco might open ahead of Auburn.

Saco city staff said Wednesday their Krispy Kreme isn’t open yet, so we’ll see who flips the “Hot Now” light on first.
