CAPE ELIZABETH — Leavitt rallied back from a three-run deficit to put five runs on the board during the fifth inning and hung on to record a 6-3 victory over Cape Elizabeth in a Class B South preliminary round contest Wednesday.

The Hornets used bunts and aggressive base running in that key fifth frame, which is also when the Capers committed all three of their errors.

Bailey DeRocher belted an RBI double in the fifth, while Abby Robertson smacked an RBI single.

Hannah DeBlois also contributed with an RBI single in the fourth, while Robertson earned the pitching victory.

Buckfield 9, Searsport 3

BUCKFIELD — Abby Shields scattered four hits and drew ample run support as Buckfield hustled to a 9-3 softball victory over Searsport on Wednesday in a Class D South quarterfinal.

Cassidy Hart, Carly Trimm and Brittney Warren led the Bucks (15-2) with two hits each, while Hannah Shields belted an RBI triple.

Chari Guzman led the way for Searsport (7-10) with an RBI double in the third, while Jenna Keach suffered the loss.

Gray-New Gloucester 4, York 3

GRAY —The Patriots took advantage of timely errors in a 4-3 victory over York in a Class C South preliminary round game.

Alison Martell reached on an error, which allowed Cara Waltz to score. Waltz reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball.

After Kayla Dredge’s two run double in the top of the fourth to give the Wildcats (5-12) a 2-1 lead, Gray-New Gloucester (11-6) regained the lead. Hannah Dixon reached third came into score on a Izzy Brindley hit. Brindley came around to score on the play after a couple of errors.

With the game tied at three in the bottom of the sixth, Martell got on, and stole second and third. She came home on a Brindley sac fly for the game-winning run.

Martell also struck out 10 York batters on four hits.

Baseball

Greely 6, Gray-New Gloucester 2

CUMBERLAND — Zach Brown scattered six hits in seven innings and drew adequate run support as Greely hustled to a 6-2 Class B South playoff victory over Gray-New Gloucester on Wednesday.

Brown belted an RBI double to tie the contest in the bottom of the first before Greely added three more runs in the next frame. Luke Miller contributed with an RBI-single in the second inning.

Jacob Winshester led the Patriots with a double, while Tanner Mann suffered the loss.

Girls’ lacrosse

St. Dom’s 15, Boothbay 5

BOOTHBAY — Caroline Gastonguay netted seven goals and dished off three assists to lead St. Dom’s to a 15-5 girls’ lacrosse rout over Boothbay in Class B North quarterfinal playoff action on Wednesday.

Avery Lutrzykowski and Mia-Angelina Leslie chipped in for the Saints with two goals each, while Emma Theriault, Elizabeth Perkins and Rileigh Stebbins also tallied to complte the scoring.

Simone Long made four saves between the posts for St. Dom’s (8-5).

Jackie McLoon and Sidney Meader each had a pair of goals for the Seahawks (10-3).
