NEWRY — John M. Wight, 77, a lifelong resident of Newry, passed away at his home Thursday, June 8.
He was born Jan. 15, 1940, in Newry, a son of George Wight and Glenys “Rae” (Lane). He was educated in Newry and Bethel schools where he enjoyed playing football.
John spent many years working as a truck driver and equipment operator, most recently for Nichols Brothers Logging and D.A. Wilson and Sons.
He married Nancy (Nana) on Oct. 6, 1956, and they spent 60 years happily married and surrounded by their family.
John is survived by his sisters, Lila Plante, Jean Crowley; brothers, George (Bub) Wight Jr., Jerry Wight, Samuel Bartholomew and Robert Bartholomew; children, Michael J. Wight, Bradley S. and wife, Brenda Wight, Terri Littlehale, and Loretta and husband, Ed Powers; grandchildren, Jason and Sarah Berry, Dani and Tom Welch, Mandy Berry, Staci and Rocco St. Clair, Katie and Karyn Wight, Kurt and Cindy Wight, and Kevin and Victoria Wight; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Payton, and Gage Berry, Jazmyn Littlehale, Trevor and Jacob St. Clair, McKinley Welch, Amelia and Cody Wight, and Addison Wight.
He was predeceased by his wife, Nancy; both parents; daughter, Gloria Ann Wight; and sisters, Priscilla Buck and Cindy Eames.
