LIVERMORE FALLS — Residents in Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls passed an $18.1 million budget for Regional School Unit 73 in a referendum Tuesday.
The budget is $745,078 less than last year.
Voting results were as follows: Jay, 316-295; Livermore, 240-152; and Livermore Falls, 155-91.
The amount raised by Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls is $10.88 million, which is down by $604,039 from last year. The rest of the money comes from state funding and other sources.
Amounts raised locally by town are:
• Livermore, $2 million, a $108,209 (5.7 percent) increase from last year.
• Livermore Falls, $1.8 million, a $150,357 (9.2 percent) increase.
• Jay, $7.1 million, a decrease of $862,597 (10.8 percent less than last year).
RSU 73 per-student costs are $11,865.
At the June 8 school board meeting, Superintendent Kenneth Healey noted that 12.2 positions in the district had been cut in this year’s budget, either through retirements or attrition. Last year, six positions were eliminated.
Healey said that in the past two years, RSU 73 has saved $1.18 million from reductions in force.
