BETHEL — The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a blaze that destroyed a vacant seasonal home at 1111 Mayville Road on Wednesday afternoon, Fire Chief Mike Jodrey said Thursday.
“When a vacant house catches fire, something happened,” he said.
The fire was called in by a supervisor for the Fire Marshal’s Office who spotted it while he was driving by, the chief said.
Bethel and Newry fire departments responded around 3 p.m. and found the one-story home already destroyed.
The owners live out of state and have not been reached and informed of the fire, Jodrey said.
It is unknown if the home was insured or what its value was.
