PERU — Bradley Hutchings was elected town road commissioner this week.
Hutchings received 306 votes to 114 for Lee Merrill, who resigned May 24, effective election day Tuesday.
Merrill made it clear in a message from the Board of Selectmen on the Peru website that he would decline the position, even if he won the election.
“Lee wishes to thank Peru residents for their continued support and encouragement during his time as Peru road commissioner, he has decided to move on to another job,” the message reads.
Carol Roach was re-elected to the Board of Selectmen for a three-year term.
Wendy Henderson’s three-year seat was open and by write in, Kevin Taylor won the spot.
Fire Chief Bill Hussey was re-elected as well.
