LEWISTON — Granger Smith is coming to Lewiston.

Smith, who also uses his “alter ego” name Earl Dibbles Jr., is scheduled to play July 19 at Simard-Payne Memorial Park.

Smith has been producing music for more than a decade, but he became a household name last year when his hit “Backroad Song” rocketed to No. 1 on the country music chart.

Another song, “If the Boot Fits” rose to No. 5 on the chart.

“With over 2.5 million Facebook fans, Granger Smith is quickly becoming one of the biggest stars in country music,” according to a promotion for the July show, “and 99.9 The Wolf is excited to bring him to Lewiston for one of the biggest concerts of the summer!”

Smith will play in Simard-Payne Memorial Park just over a year after city officials announced that the new riverfront amphitheater was ready for use

The city paid for the work with the $250,000 remaining from a $900,000 federal grant aimed at cleaning up the area around the park. About $180,000 of the grant went to write the Riverfront Island Master Plan, while the remainder went to improving the park entrance from Lincoln Street and cleaning up the park’s waterline along the Androscoggin River.
