WALES — Fire crews were sent to Pond Road late Thursday afternoon for a wildfire that burned 6 acres before it was brought under control.

Firefighters from Wales and nearby towns battled the blaze along the powerlines between Pond Road and Southern Terrace.

The fire was reported at about 5 p.m. A short time later, a second alarm was called, bringing in additional crews from multiple towns as well as forestry officials.

Because the flames swept across an area near the powerlines, a crew from Central Maine Power was also sent to Pond Road.

At about 8 p.m., Wales fire officials reported that the blaze was under control. There was no immediate word on what caused the fire.
