SABATTUS — The family of Bruce Myrick is sad to announce the world has lost “one of the Good Guys.”

Bruce passed away June 9 at his home in Sabattus. He graduated from Edward Little High School in the Class of 1953, soon to be working as a delivery truck driver for Pepsi-Cola. To this day, many still call him “Pepsi.” From there, he became a truck driver for Fox and Ginn, and finally starting his own business, Maine Cycle.

Bruce married Joan Luce and together they raised three sons, Gerry, John and Jim. Joan passed away in 1982.

Bruce and his sons were avid participants in skiing, waterskiing and motorcycling, recreationally and competitively. Most weekends involved them enjoying their favorite sports, along with his wife, Joan, and sister, Sharon.

In addition to raising his three sons, Bruce mentored local youth, helping them develop life skills and a good work ethic. A few of the many young men who benefited from Bruce’s personal mentoring are Maine’s current governor, Paul LePage, Cheeko Vince Cruz, Don Wise and Ron Emery. There were countless others calling Bruce “Dad.” Bruce took great pride in watching these individuals learn, grow and set goals for their lives to become successful, happy adults.

Their love of motorcycle riding meant many many repairs in their garage on Bradman St. in Auburn. Their “repair shop,” full of various preowned parts, lead to the formation of Maine Cycle Salvage. During the ’70s and early ’80s, Maine Cycle Salvage operated as a motorcycle salvage yard on Oxford Street, Lewiston, currently Simard-Payne Memorial Park. Bruce and his son, John, established Cycle Mart on Washington Sreet, Auburn. Later, he and his son, Jim, established Maine Cycle and Skier’s Edge ski shop, also on Washington Street.

After the death of Joan, Bruce met Rita Mills. A marriage of love and friendship began and has lasted through the years as they welcomed their grandchildren and great-grandchildren into their circle of love.

Bruce also loved loud country music, friends and a good party. We are certain Bruce, Pepsi, Dad, Grampie has earned his wings and will join many of his lifelong friends and family at one huge party in heaven. Words cannot express how Bruce Myrick will be missed.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Rita of Sabattus; children, Gerald Myrick and his wife, Paula, of Minot, John and his wife, Debra, of Gardner, Jim of Auburn; stepchildren, Theresa Mills of Lewiston, and Wayne Mills of Millersville Md.; “adoptive” son, Gov. Paul LePage and his wife, Ann, of Augusta. Bruce will be leaving a hole in the hearts of his grandchildren, Michael Myrick, Casey Myrick, Brittany Myrick, Jeremy Mills, Dennis Crooker, Trevor Crooker and Ethan Mills. Bruce’s great-grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy during the final years of his life. “Grampie” will be sadly missed by Joel, Bryson, Spencer, Chandler, Elsie, Lucas, Maxton, Zayden and Benson, and his special nephew and niece, Quinn & Molly. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon Rafnell of Topsham; sisters-in-law, Keri Myrick of Auburn, Pat Myrick of Brunswick and Debbie Myrick of Portsmouth N.H., and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Virginia Myrick; his beautiful daughter-in-law, Penny Myrick; brothers, Arthur “Harry” Myrick, Harold “Hal” Myrick, Steve Myrick, Dennis Myrick; and sister, Carol Randall. His family and cherished friends were waiting for him in Heaven to get the party started!
