FAYETTE — Arlene Beverly Coombs Wilkins, 90, of Fayette, passed away on Monday, June 12, at home with family members by her side.

She was born on July 11, 1926, in Livermore, the daughter of Gerald Coombs and Edna (Clark) Coombs, and sister to Claude, Roxie, Helen, Kenneth, Francis, Ronald, Eula, Winston, Wilda and Idis. She graduated from Livermore Falls High School in 1944 and joined the Cadet Nurse Corps, receiving her nursing education at Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston. Arlene married Clayton G. Wilkins of Brunswick in June 1946. After a wedding trip to Canada, the couple made their home in New York City, later returning to the Livermore Falls area to begin their careers and family.

A devoted wife and loving mother, she enjoyed life and learning, and opened her heart, her arms and her home to family, friends and neighbors alike. A lifelong member of the Eaton Memorial United Methodist Church, Arlene sang in the choir for many years.

She is survived by her six children, Beverly Tanaka and her husband, Randy, of Honolulu, Hawaii, Craig Wilkins and his wife, Cynthia, of Apex, N.C., Cheryl Shuttleworth of Portland, Trudy Barclay and her husband, Barry, of Fayette, Wendy Wilkins and her husband, Gib Richards, of Wahiawa, Hawaii, and Linda Wilkins and her husband, Bob Dane, of Alexandria, Va. Her life was brightened by 10 grandchildren, Derek, Casey, Lindsay, Jennifer, Valerie, Andrew, Benjamin, Katy, Kenny and Fiona; as well as 13 great-grandchildren.
