FARMINGTON — Rita G. Castonguay, 91, a resident of Jay, passed away Monday, June 19, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, with her loving family by her side.

She was born Jan. 8, 1926, in Auburn, the daughter of Oliva Jean and Leda (Laliberte) Jean. Rita was educated in the Auburn-Lewiston school system. She worked at the Continental Cotton Mills until her marriage to Bertrand Castonguay on Sept. 10, 1955, at St. Peter and Paul in Lewiston. They spent 61 beautiful years together; their marriage was an inspiration to their family.

She was a devoted wife and mother. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay and a member of the Daughters of Isabella. On June 19, 1956, she gave birth to her son, Laurier Castonguay, her special gift from God. On this same day 61 years later, she went to be with her Savior. In 1971 they opened their home to their niece Joline and her newborn daughter, Tina, a true blessing to their lives. Tina is like a daughter to them and the love they shared is endless.

She is survived by her husband, Bertrand Castonguay, of Jay; her son, Laurier Castonguay and his wife, Mary Anne, of Jay; her special great-niece, Tina Cote and her husband, Jeff, of Wells; grandchildren, Justin Castonguay and wife, Angela, of Sabattus, Amanda Castonguay and companion, Tom Chacko, of York, Pa., Jaimie Watkins and her husband, Dustin, of Livermore, and Amber Wolf and companion, Kyle Whittacker, of Scarborough, Emily Ashby and her husband, Nick, of Sullivan, and Neil Naples of Ohio; nine great-grandchildren, Jordan, Alexia, Acadia, Amelia, Avalea, Chase, Brooklyn, Oliver and Vada. She is also survived by her sister, Annabelle Paradis and her husband, Norman, of Jay; her godchildren, Annette, Georgette, Howard, Yvonne, Dickie, Real and Mary; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Lucille Cusson, Clemance Moreau and Beatrice Gallant; and brothers, Roger and Roland Jean.
