SANFORD, Maine (WGME) – Viewer video shows a large fire in an old mill building in Sanford.

Sanford police confirm they and the fire department are at the scene of the fire at the Stenton Trust Mill.

Crowd control has been a very big issue for crews in Sanford Friday night.

Police and fire from multiple departments have posted warnings on social media, as well as in person, asking people to stay back. Hundreds have been making their way down to watch crews battle the flames.

The mill, built in 1910, is a staple in the community.

The flames are still igniting; and another issue is the heat. More than a dozen fire crews have been alternating shifts, they say their gear is very heavy and it’s warm out.

Crews are staying hydrated thanks to some Good Samaritans who’ve brought water as well as other first responders.
