BRIDGTON — Anita L. Miles, 85, of Oxford died Saturday evening, June 24, 2017 at the Bridgton Health Care Center in Bridgton.

Born in Norway on Jan. 17, 1932, Anita was the eldest daughter of Harold O. and Lillian (Everett) St. Jernquist. She attended schools in Norway, Portland and Kittery and graduated valedictorian of her class at Oxford High School.

In 1949, she married Walter Joseph Avery, who died in 1969. She later married Douglass B. Miles, with whom she lived in Oxford for 46 years.

For several years, Anita was employed at Wilner Wood Products and at Stephens Memorial Hospital for 28 years in the administrative department until her retirement.

She enjoyed her home, her family and traveling. Gardening and bird-watching were special pleasures.

Anita is survived by her husband, Doug; her daughter, Susan Avery; grandson, Christopher; great-grandson, Aaron; stepchildren, Deanne Miles and John Miles; several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Anita was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Cheryl St. Jernquist and Lorna Plante; and an infant brother.
