No one should be surprised about Gov. Paul LePage’s dislike for the press. History says that dictators have always tried to stifle the press and freedom of speech. In a true dictatorship, people don’t get to vote and LePage is working on that as well by trying to reverse a decision that the majority of voters made to increase taxes on people making $200,000 or more annually.
I will add one more thing to the list of people’s rights, according to the Constitution — buying “nips” and the right to bear arms. No, I am not a radical nut, so what is the connection? Ban guns and stop violent crime; ban “nips” and stop drunk driving. If that’s not the same mentality, please enlighten me.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
