LEWISTON — Edward A. “Ned” Beausang, 72, passed away on July 13 surrounded by family after a brief battle with pneumonia. Born November 28, 1944, in Weymouth, Mass., he was the son of the late Edward A. Beausang and Frances L. Cummings.

In 1962, Ned graduated from John Bapst High School in Bangor, where he played on the golf team. He was an active member of Penobscot Valley Country Club during his teenage years, spending much of his time there playing and practicing. As a lefty, Ned honed his skills and held a low single-digit handicap. He enjoyed competing with fellow members. When not playing golf, he enjoyed working on his motorcycle and riding with his friend, JD Cookson. He also was a part-time cameraman at WLBZ Channel 2 in Bangor for a local late-night show, a job he enjoyed.

Ned enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after high school and served briefly until a heath condition ended his military aspirations. He then moved to Portland, where he started his training with the National Cash Register company. Ned enjoyed a long and productive 35-year career as a computer technician at NCR in Lewiston, enjoying many months training in Dayton and Denver. He loved to tinker with electronics and could fix about anything.

On June 2, 1973, Ned married Patricia (Pat) Alcombright in North Adams, Mass. They lived in Lewiston for three years and then bought their dream home on Middle Range Pond, where they lived until recently. They enjoyed the lake, the loons and boating. In 1982, they adopted their daughter, Becki, a great joy in his life. Ned enjoyed traveling with Pat, especially their yearly vacation at Hilton Head Island to watch the Harbour Town Classic, and then visiting their best friends, Lisa and Chad, in Charleston. They traveled extensively in the U.S., visiting all but five states. They enjoyed going to golf tournaments, out to dinner, to plays, and just being together with family and friends. Ned’s grandson, Cy, was the love of his life. He just lit up when they were together, and they had a very special relationship.

Ned was a member of Our Lady of Calcutta Church in Mechanic Falls. He was a member of the Poland Spring Country Club for 48 years, where he was club champion for two years. He scored a hole-in-one on the eighth hole there on May 7, 1977. He bowled for many years in the Will Simard League at Holiday Lanes in Lewiston. He was a lifetime member of the Poland Spring Historical Society.

Ned is survived by his loving wife, Pat; daughter, Becki and her husband, Will Leighton; his grandson, Cy, also of Poland; his brothers, Al of South Portland, Rodney of Scarborough, and Jon and his wife, Katherine, of Lewiston. He also leaves his mother-in-law, Bernice “Red” Alcombright of North Adams, Mass., his brother-in-law, Donnie Alcombright and his wife, Brenda, of Plymouth, Mass., his brother-in-law, Dick Alcombright of North Adams, Mass., and his brother-in-law, Danny Alcombright and his wife, Nancy, of Tucson, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ned was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Frances; and his father-in-law, Daniel Alcombright.
