Growing blueberries will be the focus of a free public talk by David Handley, University of Maine Cooperative Extension vegetable and small fruit specialist, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1.
The event, which is hosted by UMaine Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Volunteers (MGV), will be held at UMaine’s Rogers Farm, 914 Bennoch Road, Old Town.
Growing blueberries can be easy, rewarding and fun. Handley will review best practices to help home gardeners grow a successful crop of the much-loved fruit. Topics will include site selection, varieties, planting, early care, pest management and pruning.
Also at Rogers Farm is the UMaine Extension Penobscot County MGV Demonstration Garden featuring 34 themes, including the newest on foodscaping. It is open daily to the public, with open houses 5:30–6:30 p.m. every Tuesday throughout the growing season.
