The Orono Bog Boardwalk will have an afternoon of fun on Sunday July 23 to celebrate International Bog Day.

From 1-3 p.m. hear speakers Ron Davis and Aislinn Sarnacki and have a chance to purchase a signed copy of “Bogs & Fens” by Ron Davis and “Family Friendly Hikes in Maine” by Aislinn Sarnacki. Ron will be talking about “Bogs: What Are They Really Like” and Aislinn will be speaking about “A Boardwalk That Spans Generations.” There will be a Scavenger Hunt for the kids, and docents around the Boardwalk to discuss each area as you travel from Bangor to Orono and back again! Darling’s Ice Cream For a Cause will also be on hand for a quick cool-down, as the Boardwalk volunteers continue to fundraise to purchase 114 sections to complete the Boardwalk Reconstruction Project by the end of 2018.

A volunteer staff maintains the Boardwalk and provides information and education for visitors, including school and community groups. The facility is jointly managed by the Orono Land Trust, the City of Bangor, and the University of Maine. Its operation and maintenance are funded entirely through donations, sales of Boardwalk merchandise, and grants.
