LEWISTON — Emily F. DeNeill, 96, of Norway passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 16, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Emily was born on Peaks Island on March 6, 1921, a daughter of Percy R. and Elizabeth (Pedersen) Compton. She attended school on Peaks Island until second grade, when she then attended elementary schools in Portland. She graduated from Deering High School.
Besides being a homemaker, Emily worked as a CNA at the Jewish Home for the Aged in Portland, the Barron Center in Portland, as well as a nursing facility in Quincy, Mass.
She was a member of the Rustfield Village Exercise Club, the First Congregational Church in South Paris, where she sang in the choir, and a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Portland, where she also sang in the choir. She also volunteered at the Stephens Memorial Hospital Coffee Shop and the McLaughlin Garden in South Paris.
She is predeceased by her first husband, Christian Deschenes; her second husband, Richard DeNeill; a brother, Percy Compton Jr.; and a sister, Grace Readinger, whose children maintained close contact with Emily over the years.
She leaves behind two sons, William Deschenes of Lewiston, and Jon Deschenes and his wife, Barbara of Scarborough; six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Condolences can be expressed to the family at www.chandlerfunerals.com.
