GREENE — Bernard L. “Bernie” Howe, 77, a resident of Greene, died Thursday, July 20, peacefully at his home with his nephew by his side after a brief illness.
He was born in Westbrook on June 24, 1940, the son of Alva H. and Edith (Merrill) Howe. Bernard attended Greene schools and was a member of the Greene Baptist Church. He was also a member of Androscoggin Grange 8 in Greene, since May 1971 for a total of 46 years. He held many offices during his time with the Grange: the gatekeeper for a total of 27 years, steward for one year and musician for one year. Bernie also did many things for the Grange such as repairs, mowing the lawn and shoveling snow. He was always there to help with anything needed. Let’s not forget the variety show and the many years he was on the stage entertaining us, in whatever outfit they put him in and always with a smile.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Bernie was predeceased by his parents; and his brothers and sisters, Byron, Ralph, Muriel, Irma and Almeda.
Messages of condolence may be sent to www.finleyfuneralhome.com.
