Well Done

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire — The Saint Anselm College Albert H. Gordon Fellowship for the summer of 2017 has been awarded to Emily Rice, a politics major from Farmington.

The fellowship, awarded by the Academic Advisory Committee of the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, allows a student the opportunity to participate in the Institute’s many opportunities and to perform research and writing tasks critical to the Institute’s mission.

With the Gordon Fellowship, Rice will research and write about two topics that sparked her interest during study abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland, the decline of the Labour Party in Scotland and Wales as well as the resurgence of Scottish Nationalism. She will collaborate with Assistant Professor Erik Cleven, Ph.D., who sponsored her for the summer grant.

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts — Ashley P. DeBlois of Monmouth took part in Western New England University’s spring production of “Beauty and the Beast” to sold-out audiences at Western New England University.

DeBlois, props coordinator for the production, is a sophomore Criminal Justice major. She has been involved with the Stageless Players since her freshman year and participated in the production of “Legally Blonde” and “The Servant of Two Masters.” She has worked on multiple plays in high school including “Charlotte’s Web,” and “The Least Offensive Play in the Whole Darn World.”

ELMIRA, New York — This year’s Cowles Honor Scholar recipients were recongized at the Elmira College Academic Honors and Student Recognition Celebration on March 30.

The honor is presented to seniors who have earned a grade point average of 3.6 or above and, thus far, have sustained this academic achievement throughout their Elmira College career. This honor is named for the College’s first president, Augustus Cowles.

Local students recognized include Kristen Fecteau of Gray and Alexandria Woodard of Greene.

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — Local residents attending University of Southern Maine recently were initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society.

The students are Sarah Van Houten of Auburn; Alyson Schadler, Casco; Mariah Staires, Denmark; Katharine Roy and Melissa Simones, Lewiston; Chelsea Huston, Lisbon Falls; Samuel Barton, Minot; Stacy Burton, New Gloucester; Jenny Tirrell, Oxford; and Jordan O’Hearn, Turner.

GREENVILLE, South Carolina — Erin McNally of Raymond served as a study group leader in the Academic Resource Center at Bob Jones University for History of Civilization for the 2017 spring semester. McNally is a freshman business administration major at BJU.

CASTLETON, Vermont — Local students were recently selected to present at the annual Castleton Scholars Celebration: A Showcase of Original Student Work at Castleton University. They are Dalton-Jesse Cummins and Peter Michelsen of Winthrop.

WORCESTER, Massachusetts — The Assumption College Department of Human Services and Rehabilitation Studies has announced that Chantal Jordan of Lewiston has become a member of the Human Services National Honor Society, Tau Upsilon Alpha.
