LEWISTON — James L. Johnston, 80, of West Paris passed away Wednesday, July 19, at Central Maine Medical Center.
He was born in Livermore Falls on July 6, 1937, the son of Leroy and Edna May Vanhyning Johnston. He earned a master’s degree in business administration and education. He had been a school teacher and was principal at Woodstock Elementary School. For many years he was a self-employed wooden handle maker, most recently he was a “peddler” selling items and gloves to many stores. He had many various hobbies and interests.
He is survived by his wife, Anne (Nickerson) Johnston, of West Paris; his children, Donna and Gary Hemingway of Canton, Sandra and John Hebert of Dixfield, Kimberly Leech of Norway, Julle Warren of South Paris, Sandra and Kyle Jackson of Canaan and Sharon and Kenneth Skillings of Norway; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and a daughter, Linda Donahue.
